Higher education in the face of the pandemic

Abstract

The pandemic has forced substantial and vertiginous changes that have affected the lives of communities in all contexts. In the beginning, when the confinement was decreed successively in the different countries that were affected, Han commented that the coronavirus was "putting our system to the test" (2020). We want to tell you how the Higher Education System has been put to the test, from our perspective, and based on an ethnographic investigation carried out in 10 universities in Latin America and Europe, the results of which we will publish soon.

Author Biographies

Miguel Ángel Herrera Pavo, Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar. Quito, Ecuador.

His professional development has been mainly in the field of education and international cooperation. Psychopedagogue and doctor in the Information and Knowledge Society. He has worked as a manager, professor, and researcher in various public and private, national, and international institutions; venturing into the fields of evaluation, curriculum, e-learning, intercultural bilingual education, teacher training, educational inclusion, and gender in education. He has worked in the Ministry of Education as National Director of Educational Standards, National Director of Curriculum, Undersecretary of Educational Foundations, and Vice Minister of Education. Currently, he is a research professor in the Education Area of the Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Ecuador; He also collaborates as a teacher in the Master of Education and ICT at the Open University of Catalonia; and is editor of the Andean Journal of Education.

Griselda Amuchástegui, Universidad Provincial de Córdoba. Córdoba, Argentina.

Physical Education (PE) teacher (1988) Degree in PE Universidad Nacional de la Plata (UNLP, 2000), completed studies in Educational Research at Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano (UAHC) Santiago de Chile (1998). Her theoretical searches are always focused on solving professional practice’s challenges in formal and non-formal scenarios. She carried out the design and implementation tasks, teacher training, and consultancies in Education, Physical Education, Special Education, Emergencies Education, and Development. Her professional work has covered multiple geographies: from rural areas in Córdoba province (Argentina), Ministries of Education in Central Asia and Southeast Asia, natural emergencies in Latin America and Africa, to advisory jobs at educational and social development with public and private institutions.
She is proud of fifteen years working in the courtyards of schools. Since 1994, with breaks, her priority interest has focused on teachers' and professional training aimed at a socio-critical and pedagogical PE perspective, transdisciplinary projects, and social development.
Participate in Seminars, Congresses, and Workshops as assistant and speaker, focusing on School Physical Education, Teachers training, Emergencies Education, Education designed for plurality, and contributions of socio-emotional approaches in Education.
Between 2014 and 2015, she designed and coordinated a collaborative process down-top of curriculum change in PE at the Republic of Ecuador.
She is currently a teacher and researcher at Physical Education Faculty (FEF) at Provincial University of Córdoba (UPC), where she also is a member of the Secretary of Extension and Institutional Relations. 

Jorge Balladares Burgos, Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar. Quito, Ecuador.

Dedicated to university education, formal and non-formal education. He likes both philosophy and information and communication technologies. In turn, he is convinced of the social causes to build a better world. He has a degree in Philosophy from the Universidad del Salvador, a master's degree in Philosophy and Technologies Applied to Management and Teaching Practice from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador, a Ph.D. in Teacher Training and ICT in Education from the University of Extremadura. He is currently a research professor in the Education Area and Academic Coordinator of the Virtual Education Management Unit at the Simón Bolívar Andean University.
