Notes on the policy of children and international students in Chile (MINEDUC, 2024)

This editorial examines the evolution and impact of educational policies for foreign student children in Chile, highlighting the contrast between the National Foreign Student Policy 2018-2022 and the 2024 updates. The 2018 policy is initially criticized for insufficient pedagogical practice and limited concrete action toward intercultural education. The 2024 policy, on the other hand, is presented as a significant improvement, broadening the focus towards inclusive education spanning from kindergarten to higher education. The importance of an articulated strategy that involves inter-ministerial coordination and a stronger commitment to inclusion and interculturality is highlighted through relevant pedagogical practices and curricula. The new policy marks progress toward recognizing and effectively integrating cultural diversity into the Chilean educational system. It identifies areas for continuous improvement, such as strengthening teacher training in intercultural educational approaches.
