Knowledge management is consolidated as an elementary discipline for improvement and innovation in organizations. Knowledge as a fundamental asset must be treated and amplified to be effectively competitive differential. The objective of this work is to analyze the impact of the application of communities of practice in the improvement of processes in the context of digital transformation. The methodology of this research is an interpretive case study, based on 100 academic and university management support processes at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja - UTPL. In order to take better advantage of the new technologies implemented, process improvements were developed involving teams and groups, forming structures similar to those of communities of practice. The results of this study indicate that the organization of groups based on dialogic processes allowed the creation of new knowledge that resulted in the improvement of processes in the experience of the digital transformation project. An in-depth narrative interpretation is given to the facts identified during the development of process improvement activities in a digital transformation Project.
