Abstract
The article analyzes the conservation of the architectural patrimony of Ecuador. It proposes the retrieval of the notion of patrimony related to the idea of citizenship. The essay establishes the state of the art on the field in Ecuador, reviews the cases of Quito and Guayaquil and centers the problem in Cuenca, a city Patrimony of Humanity since 1999.
