Abstract
This paper discusses the role of the German Jesuits’ printed reports in the formation of a world consciousness within the colonial order during the second half of the 18th century. For this purpose, the paper addresses the cultural representations and signifying practices of editors, authors and readers of missionaries’ reports, as well as the building of identity discourses on nation, empire and interlinked global imaginaries.
