Abstract
This article analyses the Franciscan project for the evangelization of the indigenous elites of Quito during the early colonial periodo The San Andrés school, founded by the Franciscan order in 1553, was a cornerstone of this project. The research analyses the strategíes employed by the Franciscans to incorporate natives into the Hispanic ídeology and culture, by way of creating intercultural mechanisms that connected two worlds.
