Abstract
The article examines the antecedents of the formation of a public politics of childhood in Ecuador at the beginning of the 20th Century. The author analizes the relationship between child labor and education, the traditional and precapitalist ideas which articulated the Youth Statutes of 1938, the role of artisan guilds in relation to child labor and the learning of trades as a medium for the incorporation of children into the world of labor
