Abstract

The article discusses how through loans, technical assistance and the establishment of agricultural experiment stations in the Andean region the United States developed an imperial policy influencing the agricultural development of vast areas of Latin America. Regarding the case of Ecuador, the study focuses on the policies implemented by the United States Department of Agriculture from 1890 and the creation of the Ecuadorian Experiment Station as a mechanism for the exploitation of quina and rubber in order to obtain resources and strategic materials for war.
