Abstract

Echeverría, and their contribution to so-called “critical Marxism” in light of three categories which he developed: “use value”, baroque ethos and utopianism. First, the author examines how Echeverría reexamined the concept of “use value” as present in the thought of Marx as a means of examining the processes of production and reproduction of culture, thus placing culture in a central area of the analysis of capitalism. Then the author analyzes Echeverría’s conception of baroque modernity and baroque ethos, and ends by addressing the issue of utopianism beginning with building a critical theory of Marxism de-centered from the scenario which created it (the European world).
