Abstract

In this text, the author offers an account that celebrates the troubled years he shared, in the diplomatic world, with writer and diplomat Francisco Proaño Arandi during the 80’s in several countries of the continent. Galarza gives testimony of the intense experience of Nicaragua Sandinista; and of Cuba, facing situations which, in Galarza’ swords, are unforgettable and vital in the everyday heroism of a country of which he always chooses to “speak nice”. The author recreates literary dialogues in which eventually  the title of Proaño’s novel was defined: Antiguas caras en el espejo. The present chronicle is a journey in the memories and the acknowledgment of a shared passion: literature and the professional practice of diplomacy, with its contradictions, distress, and sometimes rewards; a chronicle that makes us part of several events which are now part of history, and also of the brotherly friendship between two writers that have always been friends.
