Abstract

This research analyzes in detail the conceptual evolution and heterogeneity of definitions between two main types of human trafficking: trafficking for the exploitation of human beings and migrant smuggling. It also examines the development of international cooperation and supranational and national action in the fight against human trafficking, describing its most significant aspects and analyzing the obstacles that limit or hinder it, with the aim of identifying useful analytical tools to overcome them, such as, in the case of trafficking, those included in the Council of Europe Convention, opened for signature on May 16, 2005.
