Abstract

This paper provides an overview of the state of global legislation on biotechnology and bioethics, as well as the legal situation in the Andean Community countries regarding this issue. The priority is to outline Ecuadorian legislation on biotechnology, considering two aspects: biotechnology related to biodiversity and biotechnology for human use. A special analysis is made of constitutional principles and norms, as well as other legal provisions.
