Supremacy of the Constitution and International Treaties

Abstract

This article presents a summary of the historical evolution of safeguarding Ecuador's Political Constitution through constitutional review of international treaties. It also includes a reflection highlighting the importance of improving the law through a harmonious relationship between domestic and international legislation, striving for the unity of the legal system and, especially, for the defense of constitutionally protected human rights. It demonstrates the need to establish guidelines for the correct interpretation of national legislation based on fundamental principles such as liberty, equality, and non-discrimination, enshrined in various international instruments.
