The Colombian Presidential elections of 2010
Keywords:
Colombia, elections, Uribe, hegemonyAbstract
The results of the recent presidential elections in Colombia confirmed uribismo as the dominant electoral force of the country. The winner, now President Juan Manuel Santos, from the beginning of the electoral race proclaimed himself as the heir of the President Alvaro Uribe’s political project –and electoral machine. In addition, the Uribista hegemony was helped by the poor electoral performance of both the traditional parties (Conservative and Liberal), and of the new forces that has recently emerged in the political arena. The essay offers an analysis of the Colombian political conjuncture, providing the reader with a description of the mechanisms behind the Uribista hegemony.
