Abstract

By focusing on the Ecuadorian agricultural sector, this article describes the current state of the US-Andean Free Trade Agreement negotiations. According to the author, the pace of the negotiations have eroded for the Ecuadorian negotiators, mostly because of the inflexibility of the US positions. Two scenarios are envisioned: either Ecuador could decide to stop the negotiation process or the US could continue the negotiations by adopting a more flexible stance, which would facilitate the signing of the agreement.
