Abstract

Surrealism, born in the 1920s and which arrived soon to Paraguay through foreign literary magazines (if not by foundational texts, by texts from writers close to the movement), did not have relevance in Paraguayan poetry until it managed to position itself –evidently or surreptitiously– in the poetic trade two decades later. This article tries to show which were the necessary conditions for this movement to influence Paraguayan literature, especially poetry, and the way in which it succeeded in making poetry what it naturally had to be: Paraguayan and current. At the same time, inserted along the article, there are enough texts to show the evolution of this process, and to provide a small anthology –pressed maybe by the obscureness of the topic.
