Abstract

This essay makes a critique of the reception of the filmography of Argentine Leonardo Favio constructed from a modernist paradigm based on the notion of “autor”. It analyzes a set of speeches in the nineties that led to the consecration of the figure of Favio which is still current today. Finally, it introduces new perspectives to understand the plurality of his work based on cultural tensions forgotten by modernist critics. From the concepts of “transculturation” and “hybridity” it proposes a reading that integrates the cultured and the popular, particularism and universalism, tradition and modernity.
