Abstract

The author comments on the «Los nuevos años» trilogy, by Alfredo Pareja Diezcanseco. La advertencia (The Warning) presents the dreams 01 Ecuadorian modernization, with the hopes of more equality and inclusion; El aire y los recuerdos (Air and Memories) is read as a creation of unique poetic nuances: air is the bringer 01 illusions and dreams of solutions for the nation; but it also carries them away, with all the frustrations,  helplessness and failures; Los poderes omnímodos (The AII Embracing Powers) recounts the beginnings of the era of Velasco Ibarra; taking full advantage of situations and characters, giving proof to an exceptionallevel of maturity in Pareja's fictíon. He paints the two great cities of the natíon in these novels, but also tours the countryside; important historie episodes are the pretext used to show the diverse and wide ranging nature of Ecuadorian society; events and characters that are also intimately entwined with other important world events of the age. The author maintains that one can speak of Pareja's 'globalizing' tendency in these novels which clearly calls tor the 'de-ctoístering' of the nation.
