The premiere of Las tres ratas, based on the novel of the same na me by Alfredo Pareja, happened in 1946 in Argentina and, in Ecuador, two years later. Although initially the author wasn't very comfortable with this adaptation, he participated in its restoration and re-release in 1989, in a very different world. That year a project launched in 1981 by the National Film Library to copy the nation's cinematographic heritage was completed. In 1989, Ecuadorian film was declared to be part of the State's cultural heritage and said institution was appointed to be its repository. Alfredo Pareja played an important part in the restoration, through diplomatic channels, of a copy of Las tres ratas, as well as contributing various documents related to movies of the works of novelist Demetrio Aguilera Malta. He was the force behind this global project, despite the ambiguous leelings related to 40 year old premieres as expressed in part 01 a letter from Alfredo Pareja to the painter Galo Galecio, in 1946.
