Abstract

Human rights have been an historical struggle of women to achieve a place in society. The health right of women has been recognized nationally and internationally as a fundamental human right, essential for the development of other rights and guaranteed from the principle of equality and non-discrimination. However, referring to the women sex workers health, it has shown that there are great efforts to achieve their security, protection and respect, although there are still significant challenges to meet. Sex work has been very challenged by the various feminisms and even more by the masculine, sexist and patriarchal society, in which we live, so it is difficult to achieve full enjoyment of the rights of this social group. In particular, sex workers rights of health has been recognized and guaranteed in terms of the health of customers and not theirs.

Historically, women sex workers were not considered as subject of rights, but as objects of regulation of the States. Therefore, their rights have been invisible and in many cases annulled. Ecuador has been able to implement health policies (sexual and reproductive) on female sex workers. However, it is necessary to develop a comprehensive policy that considers promotion of the rights, prevention of STI’s and HIV / AIDS as well as the restoration of the rights of sex workers.
