Abstract

This article explores the development and challenges of the psychological or psychosocial interventions in cases of gross human rights violations in contexts of national, international and transitional justice processes, and the necessity to implement them in order to forewarn the well-being of the victims and survivors and to protect their rights in these procedures. Some paradigms that exist regarding trauma interventions in political contexts and some theoretical aspects that feed the research work and the practice of such traumatic situations are discussed. Finally, the article briefly review some experiences where psychosocial interventions played an important role, such as the International Criminal Court (ICC), the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR) and the Truth Commission of Ecuador (TCE).
